Y-12 Public Activities

We encourage citizens to understand and learn more about the important missions of the NNSA’s Y-12 National Security Complex and other DOE programs in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In coordination with the DOE’s Oak Ridge Office (ORO), there are a variety of educational and public involvement activities open to the public. Our goal is to educate citizens and seek their meaningful involvement.

If you are visiting the area, the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge is the best starting point for exhibits and information about DOE programs in national security, science, environmental management, and nuclear fuel supply. Tours are conducted of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Y-12 National Security Complex and East Tennessee Technology Park during the summer months departing from the Museum.

For those with more specific interests in our programs, a calendar of public involvement activities, which identifies announcements, comment periods and public meetings of potential interest is available. This newsletter is published by the Oak Ridge Office Public Affairs Office and includes information on Y-12 related announcements. Current public comment requests, which are also advertised in area newspapers, are included in the links listed below. Information on upcoming public meetings related to Y-12 subjects are also included below.

The DOE Information Center in Oak Ridge is a repository for over 40,000 current and archived documents about DOE programs in Oak Ridge. Information may also be requested through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act processes
